Community Center Bond Proposal and Millage Proposal

At the February 10, 2020 Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved placing the following proposals on the May 5th ballot for consideration by voters.

 COMMUNITY CENTER BOND PROPOSAL

Shall Plainfield Charter Township, Kent County, Michigan, borrow the principal amount of not to exceed $21,500,000 and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds for all or a portion of that amount in one or more series payable over not to exceed twenty-one (21) years from the date of issue of each series to pay the cost of designing, acquiring, constructing, furnishing, and equipping a new community center building, including site work and other related improvements?

The estimated millage to be levied in the first year of levy is 0.9327 mills ($0.9327 for each $1,000 of taxable value) and the estimated simple average annual millage rate required to retire the bonds is 0.9338 mills ($0.9338 for each $1,000 of taxable value).

COMMUNITY CENTER OPERATION, MAINTENANCE AND 
IMPROVEMENT MILLAGE PROPOSAL

Shall the tax rate limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution on general ad valorem taxes within Plainfield Charter Township be increased and a new additional millage be levied in the amount of up to 0.2 mills ($0.20 per $1,000 of taxable value) for the period of 2020 through 2039, inclusive, for the purpose of operating, maintaining and improving a community center, and shall the township levy such millage for such purpose, raising an estimated $265,000 in the first year of the levy?
