Paid-On-Call Firefighter

To apply for a Paid On Call Firefighter position, you must:

  • Submit an application
  • Submit a copy of High School Diploma or GED
  • Submit a copy of a valid driver’s license
  • Submit a resume
  • Submit a signed smoking waiver
  • Pass a background check
  • Meet with Company Officer
  • Pass the Physical Ability Test
  • Pass NFPA 1582 Physical
  • Submit to TB Test

If you have a medical license, you must also:

  • Submit Copy of State of Michigan Medical License & Expiration Date
  • Submit Copy of current CPR card w/AED & Expiration Date
  • Submit copy of Hepatitis B Immunizations or Signed Waiver

If you have completed firefighter training, you must also:

  • Submit copy of MI Fire Fighters Training Council FF I & II Certificates
  • Submit copy of MI Fire Fighters Training Council Driver’s Training Certificate
  • Submit copy of MI Fire Fighters Training Council HazMat Operations Certificate
  • Submit Copy of current CPR card w/AED & Expiration Date

Successful applicants will be enrolled in the next firefighter academy, unless previously certified.  Paid On Call Firefighters are not allowed to participate in activities that would place them in danger until they have completed Firefighter I & II training.  This training takes approximately nine months.

Nature of Work:  This is responsible skilled work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires.  Work involves training for and participating in the protection of life and property by fire fighting, fire prevention, fire education, and rescue activities.  Work includes fire fighting, rescue, emergency medical care, and efficient operation and maintenance of equipment.  Although work is performed under general supervision and established regulations, it requires initiative and an individual understanding of fire fighting, fire prevention, rescue methods, and emergency medical techniques.  Work is reviewed by command officers through inspections, observation, and results obtained.

Paid On Call Firefighters are dispatched via pager per our Standard Operating Procedures.
